“Midwinter Chill was one of my favorite paintings in the show. You’ve taken Rothko to the next level.” Emebet K.

Artist Statement

As an artist, I am driven by the act of creation.

Currently, my works are both abstract and representational. Color always takes center stage in my paintings, and the natural world is an important source of inspiration.

I started painting many decades ago, but the demands of business and family kept my brush quiet. Studies with Chester Arnold and others have reignited my passion, and I am able to spend many hours with paint and canvas.

My early formal education and training as a microbiologist helped develop a keen visual discrimination know-how. In later years, my printing and graphic arts company tuned my eyes to design and color relationships. I have found this unique set of skills invaluable in developing my fine art process.

I have exhibited at many juried art shows. I have also received critical recognition including the Judges Award for the Art in the Redwoods exhibit at Gualala Arts Center.

Painting at Sea Ranch, CA

The North Sonoma Coast is always a prime source of inspiration.

“Curlew Reach, Sea Ranch" This painting sold at a show juried by Natasha Boas.

“I was particularly drawn to you as a colorist, and the way those tensions and colors are created.” Natasha B.

“My husband is an artist so I often leave the art to him, but this painting was too special to pass up. The painting changes at different times of the day and I don’t think I will ever get tired of looking at this work”. Laurie H.
